Museum of Human Evolution (Museo de la Evolución Humana)

Logo of the Museum of Human Evolution

The MEH or Museum of Human Evolution is without a doubt the most interesting museum you will find in Burgos.

This museum displays various archaeological remains found in the sites of the Sierra de Atapuerca, and along with them you will find all kinds of information about human evolution. The most notable in the museum are ten hyper-realistic reproductions of hominids prior to Homo sapiens.

In 2022, this museum registered 142,766 visits (only the permanent exhibition of the MEH, without counting the visitors to the temporary exhibitions, or to the Atapuerca sites), an amount very close to the 151,877 visits that it registered in 2019, the year before the pandemic and the global museum crisis. With these figures, the Museum of Human Evolution is not only the most visited museum in Burgos, but also one of the most visited museums in all of Castilla y León.
